SUSTAINABLE LIVING

WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE SUSTAINABLE

Property Improvement Enterprises prides itself on going green. When it’s possible, we’re always looking to incorporate more sustainable materials into our renovation process. Why? Because sustainability is more than a trend. It’s a way to give back to our earth and it’s a way to maintain our health. As a global community, it’s become clear our earth is suffering, and it’s the everyday actions we take, like choosing sustainable materials inside our homes, that makes a difference.

With social distancing measures still in place, most of us are looking at spending more time indoors. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up ways you can make your outdoor oasis more sustainable and eco-friendly.

Roofing

When it comes to the roof you keep over your head, there’s actually some pretty sustainable options out there these days. Take Clay, for example. Clay roofing is obtained from clay pits and is highly durable, recyclable and au naturale. Clay is available in a ton of color variety, ranging from dark earthy tones to more simply solids like white or black.

In addition to clay, slate is a beautiful option for a sustainable roof. Slates are recyclable and incredibly durable. They are also waterproof and fire resistant which is quite handy when you’re choosing the material that protects your home from the elements.

With both eco-friendly options, you don’t have to compromise style for sustainability. You’ll still have plenty of options to customize the style of your home, while still feeling confident in your “green” choices.

 Decking

Homeowners often love adding decks to their home because it becomes additional square footage for entertaining and gatherings. Now, with social distancing measures still in place, you might consider adding even more space to your deck to allow for proper distance. Cali Bamboo offers a gorgeous selection of decking, with colors ranging from slate to charcoal. We happen to be big fans of Cali Bamboo for their dedication to green building and sustainability. Their mission is simple but important: to make a difference on our planet.

Outdoor Furniture

Your deck might require some new outdoor furniture, so we figured we’d share some sustainable options for outdoor living. West Elm stands out for their FSC certified and upcycled materials. They carry stunning outdoor pieces like this Portside sectional. Outer is another fantastic retailer that creates stylish outdoor furniture that’s also green and eco-friendly. Their outdoor rugs would be the perfect addition to any outdoor space.

As you prepare for another season of social distancing and more time indoors, how are you making your home more sustainable?
