Property Improvement Enterprises recently acquired a new property on Kansas Lane in Takoma, Maryland and we’re excited to share the renovation progress with you!

To start, this charming home has the perfect bones for a gorgeous transformation. The Property Improvement Enterprises team plans to add 500 square feet with a two-story addition. We’ve also been discussing splitting some of the square footage and enhancing the front elevation with a new front porch and front foyer. 

This week, we’ll be meeting with an architect to review and discuss design options. One of the main aspects of this renovation we keep considering is this: how do we find the perfect blend between form and functionality?

If you’ve followed some of our other home renovation projects like Hampton Road (which recently sold!), then you know we always keep our future buyers in the forefront of our minds. We try to combine modern style with practical functionality. And this Kansas Lane purchase is no different. 

One of the decisions we’ve been mulling over with this property is whether contrast in the front of the house would create better curb appeal vs having more space for a new kitchen and master suite in the back of the house. 

More space would be a decision that honors functionality, where as a more appealing curb honors form. When it comes to designing a home, BOTH form and function are important to both buyers and sellers. It’s Property Improvement Enterprises priority to find the balance between both.

As we consider design options for this Kansas Lane home, we’re thinking about incorporating the very popular farmhouse style. Famous designer Joanna Gaines put farmhouse design on the map and it continues to grow in popularity across the country. It’s important that we incorporate trendy interior design along with functionality because buyers want a home that feels practical and stylish.
